400/500 railmotor branchline diesel set - the 400 class diesel railmotors were the first diesel railcars with driving cabs at both ends - they were used singly or with up to two trailer cars - in both Silver/Blue and Tuscan/Buff liveries.

600/700 twin-car branchline diesel set - the 600/700 class diesel railcars were the first twin-car diesel set with driving cabs at both ends to improve turn-around times at each end of the run - they were used on most major branch lines throughout NSW where the existing CPH railmotors did not have enough capacity for the traffic demands.

620/720 twin-car outer suburban diesel set - the 620/720 class diesel railcars were a development of the 600/700 class, and were designed specifically for the outer suburban traffic radiating from major cities and towns, especially from Newcastle and some from Sydney, but in later days also ran from a few major country towns.

DEB airconditioned mainline express diesel set - a further development of the preceeding 600 and 620 classes, these were the first air-conditioned railcars, and built specifically to replace locomotive hauled passenger coaches on some of the main secondary express trains. They saw service on the Northern Tablelands Express, North Coast Daylight Express, Canberra-Monaro Express and Far West Express.

Departmental Paybuses - during the late 1930's the NSWGR ordered six small passenger railbuses for remote rural branchlines; they did not prove successful, and so were converted into pay buses - these visited every part of the NSWGR system once a fortnight to pay the wages for all railway staff.


Electric locomotives - NSWGR

Prototype 4501/7100 electric locomotive - 4501 was the prototype 1500vDC electric locomotive - it was built as a test and training unit prior to the delivery of the forty 46 class electric loocomotives from the UK. When the 45 class diesels were being built in 1967, 4501 was renumbered to 7100.
