Generic Steelworks Stock ------------------------ A search of the MSTS download sites found a number of specialised wagons suitable for steelworks traffic. Bottle cars and Ingots cars --------------------------- These have come from a kit found on the US Train-sim.com website - they were made by West Fork Locomotive Works. This release is under the GNU General Public License. In accordance with the GNU license, I have made the following modifications: Added a second Empty Bottle car with adjusted texture file. Added a second Full Ingot car with alternate texture, and added FreightAnim to show 'hot' ingots. NOTE: the 'torpedo' or 'bottle' type hot metal cars came into being after steelworks converted from the Open Hearth steelmaking process to the Basic Oxygen steelmaking process, from 1960 onwards. Prior to this date transfer of molten steel was done by open-topped Hot Metal ladle cars (see below). MSTS Ohio River & Western slag car ---------------------------------- These have come from a kit found on the US Train-sim.com website - they were made by Robert Delinsky. This release is under the Freeware License. In accordance with the Freeware license, I have made the following modifications: Added a new Full Hot Metal car with adjusted files, and added FreightAnim to show the ladle 'lifting lugs'. Added a new Empty Hot Metal car with adjusted files, and added FreightAnim to show the ladle 'lifting lugs'. NOTE: Slag ladles sat in a special tilting cradle, which was 'power' tilted at the slag dump when the slag required to be unloaded - Hot Metal ladles were fitted with substantial cast 'lifting lugs' which enabled the ladle to be fully lifted off the rail chassis and 'craned' to the pouring position at the steel furnace. As the original car was designed as a Slag car only, I have added the 'lifting lugs' by way of a 'FreightAnim'. All Wagons ---------- The physics files have been adjusted to reflect typical empty and loaded weights, based on drawings from a book on the BHP Steelworks in Newcastle N.S.W. Australia. Suitable Consists to use with these cars are contained both herein, and in the appropriate locomotive packs - in both cases the Consists will need to be copied into the MSTS 'Consists' Folder under Trains in the main MSTS folders. To use these Consists you will also need the 'AU_AIS_Private_Locos' pack. In the 'Main Illawarra V3' route, I have included appropriate Paths to use these wagons with, and a document in the route - 'Guidelines for Realistic Traffic Workings for the Main Illawarra Route.doc' contains details of how these wagons were worked at the AIS Port Kembla steelworks.
