Model Details ---------------- 3D locomotive Models created with Train Sim Modeler by Brian Bere-Streeter Textures by Brian Bere-Streeter and Paul Gausden These models are for your personal use only, and may not be sold or distributed in any way without the creators' permission. The following models are provided in this pack: 3007, 3034, 3067, 3076, 3077, 3085, 3112 and 3130 I have arranged the locos to have a variety of different visual features found in the original locos. - there are 6 different variations of coal bunker shapes - some are lined, some aren't - some have Ramsbottom SV's, some have Ross Pop SV's - some have electric marker lamps, some have kerosene marker lamps on the lampirons - some have electric headlights front & rear, some don't - one has a 'dirty' brass dome The different combinations of features and numbers have been authenticated by photographs in the main 30 Class reference book described below. Some locations where these locos worked (by photographic evidence) are: 3007 - Sydney shunter (Darling Harbour/Pyrmont), Newcastle area 3034 - Sydney shunter, Newcastle area 3067 - Newcastle area 3076 - Newcastle area, Wollongong area 3077 - Wollongong area, Newcastle area 3085 - Sydney shunter 3112 - Sydney shunter, Richmond line, Bathurst shunter 3130 - Campbelltown line, West Ryde-Hornsby banker Driving Hints ------------- Remember that this is a tank locomotive with limited water and coal capacity, so as you are driving, keep an eye on the water and coal levels. The water tanks hold only 1,580 gallons, and the bunker coal capacity is 3 tons. Water pickups are activated at both the front and rear tank filler points, and the coal pickup is activated at the rear bunker. Locomotives with the medium bunker extension have 3.5 tons coal capacity, those with the full bunker extension have 4 tons capacity. ======================================== 2. Installation Notes ---------------------- Double click on the self installing EXE file and follow the instructions. The models will be automatically installed in a new folder <>. One consist (a light engine) has been installed in the Consists folder, for each individual locomotive. These locomotives sound best using the "2 Cylinder Generic Sound Set" by Stuart Williamson and have therefore been set up with these sounds in mind. You can download these sounds from www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/files/2cSndSetV1-1.ZIP or from from uktrainsim.com. These sounds come with an installer to make life as simple as possible. The Sound Set must be setup as "..\\..\\common.sound\\2cyl_generic\\2c-60b-ENG01.sms" in a Common Sound folder. PLEASE NOTE: that the 2-cylinder generic sound set also uses some sounds from the default Scotsman and 380 locos included with MSTS, additionally, the UK_shared sound folder must be present - accordingly these sound sets must be installed in your MSTS installation. This locomotive aliases to the original C30 cab from the C30 locomotive 4-6-4T #3112 available from the Steam4me site. This must be installed for these locos to work. The new C30 Class locomotives are installed in a separate folder to Joseph Spinella's original, and can co-exist with it - however, if you decide to discontinue using the original locomotive, ensure that the original CabView folder is retained. To design additional consists of your own, use the Consist Editor. A tutorial for this may be found at http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/ ============================================ 3. Prototype Notes -------------------- Between 1903 and 1917, the NSWGR ordered a total of 145 'Baltic' 4-6-4 side-tank locomotives (95 from Beyer Peacock and 50 from Eveleigh Workshops) to service the ever-expanding heavy suburban traffic generated within the Sydney Metropolitan Area. After WW1 the NSWGR decided to electrify the Sydney suburban network, and most of this new network was in place by 1926, thereby displacing a number of the (by now re-coded C30) locos, which were put into store. It was considered that they were too valuable to scrap, and so between 1928 and 1932, 77 of them were converted into light tender locomotives and re-classified as C30T, for use over the more remote lightly laid country branch lines, replacing many older obsolete early loco classes. Until the later advent of the 48 class branch-line diesels, the C30T's became the 'classic' universal branch line locomotive. The remaining C30 tank locomotives were dispersed and worked the outer Sydney suburban traffic (Liverpool to Campbelltown, and Blacktown to Richmond) along with shunting Sydney yard and Macdonaldtown carriage sheds. Others were transferred to handle expanding suburban traffic in the Newcastle and Wollongong areas; the daily Wollongong to Moss Vale passenger train over the twisting steep 1 in 30 line over the Illawarra Escarpment was still C30 hauled up to the end of 1965.
